WHY YOUR SUPPORT IS VITAL

Our number one objective is to make certain that the new Nilpena Ediacara National Park’s globally significant Ediacaran fossils are conserved, protected and well managed into the future.

To meet this challenge, we seek to enlist the support of interested, involved, good-hearted people (like you) to rally to the cause, give what you can and spread the word as widely as you can about this unique evidential repository of the origins of multicellular life.

Since March 2019, the Foundation has raised over a million dollars – thank you, fossil enthusiasts worldwide. This has allowed SA Government to purchase the land holding the fossil beds and to assist with their protection. Donations have helped to transform Nilpena’s historic Blacksmith’s Shop into an immersive Ediacaran interpretive centre. Mostly recently, donations have helped with an educational video to be released this year, restoration works at the historic Woolshed building and some important research work relating to digitising the fossil beds.

WHAT YOUR SUPPORT WILL ACHIEVE

Fossil Bed Stabilisation

Protection and management of the fossil beds is paramount. Not only do they sustain world-leading scientific research, visitor access and education, these beds are fundamental to World Heritage nomination of the Northern Flinders Ranges. Thanks to our donors we have provided $176,500 towards Fossil Bed Stabilisation. Funding required to stabilise the four remaining beds is $50,000.

Preservation of the Pastoral Heritage

Restoration of the Nilpena pastoral heritage is key to the National Park’s role in supporting scientific research and providing an immersive experience for visitors. Essential funding for further work on the historic Woolshed and Shearers Quarters is $150,000 over the next two years.

Outreach, Education and Curriculum-linked Learning

At the Blacksmith’s Shop, visitors are time-travelled half a billion years back to before the Cambrian period and submerged into the animal life of the Ediacaran Sea.

School children everywhere need to learn and be inspired by the significance of Ediacara in understanding the story of the foundation of life on Earth. We are continually developing ways of providing access and educational programs and resources. Donations assist us with this exciting work.

WAYS YOU CAN GIVE

To support this ongoing vision for the future we are seeking funding through personal donations, bequests and corporate contributions. Support can be directed to a specific project with your funds then specifically kept aside for the project. We will update you as work is carried out.

We need your help to ensure this treasure is protected for future generations.

Isn’t it extraordinary to think that this whole area used to be a shallow protected ocean not unlike the Spencer Gulf today.

The site is awesome. It’s amazing to see life, millions of years old, in perfect fossilised condition.

It is difficult to comprehend that long before livestock roamed Nilpena, this marginal country was once underwater and home to array of ancient creatures marking the dawn of animal life.
